Medical Helicopter Crashes in Evergreen, Alabama; No Fatalities Reported

EVERGREEN, Ala. — An investigation is underway after a medical helicopter crashed Sunday afternoon while en route to an area hospital in Evergreen, Alabama. The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. In Conecuh County, approximately 80 miles southwest of Montgomery and 100 miles northeast of Mobile.

According to Conecuh County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Davis, three people were onboard the helicopter when it went down. Davis confirmed that no fatalities have been reported, and all three individuals were transported by ambulance for evaluation to a hospital outside of Evergreen. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.

The helicopter, piloted by an individual attempting to land at Evergreen Hospital, impacted the ground next to a residence at 303 South Main Street, just down the street from the hospital’s designated landing pad. Davis stated that the home itself sustained no damage as a result of the crash.

“Federal aviation agencies were notified and will be conducting an on-scene investigation,” Davis said. The Evergreen Police Department is currently blocking off the area around the crash site to prevent access until federal investigators complete their work.

The roadway from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Evergreen Medical Center remains closed for an undetermined period. Evergreen Police Chief reportedly indicated that there was minimal fuel spillage from the helicopter during the incident.

The circumstances leading to the crash are currently unknown. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the incident as part of the ongoing investigation. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
