The LigaSure™ XP Maryland Jaw Sealer/Divider, a recent addition to Medtronic’s LigaSure™ portfolio, has demonstrated improved performance characteristics when compared to LigaSure™ Atlas and LigaSure™ Dolphin Tip devices in ex vivo and in vivo testing. Incomplete cuts and sticking: The XP Maryland had a significantly lower rate of incomplete cuts compared to the Dolphin Tip (P < 0.0001) and fewer sticking incidents compared to the Atlas (P = 0.0019).

Burst pressure: The mean burst pressure of the XP Maryland was 1082 ± 347 mmHg, compared to the Dolphin Tip’s 1065 ± 413 mmHg and the Atlas’s 1531 ± 450 mmHg.
- Hemostasis: There was no statistical difference in the rate of hemostasis achieved between the XP Maryland and the other two devices.
