A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the Allenby crossing on the Israeli side of the Jordanian border, where a Jordanian truck driver was armed with a pistol.
The attack resulted in the loss of three Israeli lives, with the victims being identified as crossing security personnel who were shot at the inspection area.
According to reports from the Maariv newspaper, the victims were shot just as they reached the crossing point inspection area.
Perpetrator Identified
The Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation identified the suspect as Maher Hussein Dhiyab al-Jazi, who was born on April 28, 1985.
Al-Jazi, a resident of Jordan’s Ma’an Governorate, was immediately shot dead by Israeli soldiers at the crossing.
Family Background
Al-Jazi’s family belongs to the Al-Huwaytat tribe in Aadhar, a village in the governorate.
Activists claim that Maher is a descendant of the “al-Zazi” family, which has a notable history in the region.
Sheikh Harun al-Zazi al-Huwaiti, a commander in the 1948 Battle of al-Qastal in Jerusalem, was a member of this family.
Major General Mashoor al-Jazi, a leader in the Battle of Karama in 1967 and a grandson of Sheikh Harun, is also from this family.
