The Seattle Seahawks have entered the 2026 NFL season following a seismic ownership shift, as a formal agreement finalized on September 3, 2026, officially transferred the franchise to the Khosla family for $9.612 billion. The transaction concludes the Allen family’s ownership tenure that began in 1997 when Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen purchased the franchise from Ken Behring. Following Paul Allen’s death in 2018, his sister, Jody Allen, managed the organization as part of his estate until agreeing to sell the team after Seattle secured its second Super Bowl title.

Leadership Structure and Family Roles

Under the finalized ownership structure, Vinod Khosla serves as the chair of the Seahawks, while his wife, Neeru Khosla, assumes the role of controlling owner and president of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation. Their son, Neal Khosla, holds the position of vice chair within the organization. Sportico reported that Neeru Khosla’s control ownership marks a gender milestone for the NFL, representing the first time a woman has taken the top ownership spot at a franchise immediately following a transaction. Other female control owners across the league took control following the death of prior owners. Furthermore, Sportico noted that Vinod and Neeru Khosla were born in India, making them the first NFL owners born in the world’s most populous country, joining a small group of foreign-born control owners that includes Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan and Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf.

Immediate Plans and Operational Continuity

Addressing the team’s direction ahead of the season opener against the New England Patriots, Vinod Khosla indicated that the family’s primary goal is maintaining stability for an already successful organization.

First, I would say, we’re owners for five days. A little early to formulate specific plans. The broad thing I can say is I don’t expect too many changes. So, our philosophy will be similar to what the Allens did and rely a lot on management to recommend what they want to do.

Sportico noted that the record-breaking $9.612 billion agreement stands as the highest price ever paid for an NFL team, utilizing a financing structure where minority partners joined following the initial agreement reached on July 11, 2026, ahead of NFL owner approval on August 26.
