“Record, weight 400 grams.”
“It’s so heavy. Is this the heaviest of the four?”
It is reported that this young ape is the first white-browed gibbon successfully bred by the center this year, and the fourth artificially bred white-browed gibbon in the center. “The mother of this baby gibbon is called Maoqiu and the father is Tiaotiao. They were both admitted to our center for rescue in 2014.” Gao Ping, a senior engineer at the center, said that the newborn baby ape is in good health. .

White-browed gibbon is a national first-level protected wild animal, and its population is extremely rare. In the wild, white-browed gibbons are usually monogamous animals, with mates and their young forming family groups. “The male and female white-browed gibbons have different hair colors when they reach adulthood. The males are black and the females are milky white. The newborn apes have a protective color similar to the female ape’s hair color. The body hair is milky white and gradually turns to black around the age of 1. If it is a male, it will always maintain black body hair. “The female’s coat color will change again when she is 4 to 6 years old, gradually turning into milky white.” Teng Ping, a senior engineer at the center, said that white-browed gibbons become sexually mature and enter the breeding period at about 7 to 9 years old. The birth interval of white-browed gibbons is about three years, and they only give birth to one baby at a time, so each reproduction is particularly precious.

The technical team of the Wildlife Conservation and Rescue Center of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture has been committed to research on the breeding of white-browed gibbon, and continues to explore scientific and effective breeding methods and technologies. The birth of this young ape marks the center’s continuous progress and maturity in the artificial breeding technology of white-browed gibbon, and has accumulated valuable experience for subsequent breeding work, which will help increase the population of white-browed gibbon and protect the survival and survival of this rare species. Reproduction is of great significance.
