Megan Rhodes was named the Fort Knox Armed Forces Insurance Spouse of the Year on April 14, 2026. In addition to this recognition, Rhodes was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
The award, sponsored by Armed Forces Insurance, recognizes military spouses for their efforts in community building. Rhodes earned the distinction after spending one year stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Community Leadership and Volunteerism
Rhodes maintains several active roles within the Fort Knox community. She volunteers with the Fort Knox Red Cross Warrior Warehouse and is a member of the Fort Knox Spouses and Community Club.
she serves as the civilian advisor for the Soldier and Family Readiness Group for the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the U.S. Army Recruiting Division.
As part of her work with the Fort Knox Spouses and Community Club, Rhodes participates in the Mother Flocker
program, which involves placing a flock of flamingos in the yards of community members to celebrate their birthdays.
Rhodes stated that her objective in these positions is to prove through these roles that military spouses are powerful community leaders.
Motivation and Background
The drive to establish support systems for other military spouses was inspired by Rhodes’ own experiences. She noted that when she first became a military spouse, the demanding nature of her husband’s recruiting assignment, coupled with long training periods and frequent travel, could be isolating.

This experience led her to increase her involvement to build a support network for herself and other spouses facing similar challenges. Rhodes has remained an active member of the various communities she joined across five permanent changes of station.
Armed Forces Insurance Recognition Program
The Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year program identifies and honors spouses across multiple military branches for their contributions. Other recognized spouses for 2026 include:
