Dietitian Megan Wroe on the Role of Nutrition in a Healthy Lifestyle
Updated May 28, 2025
Megan Wroe, a dietitian and wellness manager at St. Jude Wellness Center, is passionate about helping people improve their health through food.Wroe emphasizes making healthy food taste good, believing that excitement about healthy alternatives is key to a healthier lifestyle. Her approach to nutrition focuses on the individual, recognizing that the ideal diet varies based on specific health conditions.
Wroe’s interest in dietetics sparked after her sister’s type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Witnessing the impact of diet firsthand, she adopted a lifestyle-focused approach. She stresses that seeing a dietitian isn’t just for weight management but for supporting healthy organ function through proper nutrition practices. Understanding the crucial role of diet is paramount.
When asked about her definition of healthy eating, Wroe said, ”My definition of healthy is eating so that your body actually feels good. That’s healthy eating as someone with kidney disease has a very different idea of what healthy eating is versus someone who maybe has Crohn’s disease or celiac disease.”
For those seeking tips for healthy eating,Wroe advises,”Eating healthy starts with real food. Anything you make from scratch at home will be healthier than going out or taking out.”
Wroe recommends Lily Nichols’ Dark Chocolate Cashew Tart as one of her favourite recipes.
Wroe believes the first step toward a healthier lifestyle is self-reflection. “Start with a journal,” she advises. “Write things down,it doesn’t even have to be a lengthy journal but maybe every day for a week, write down things that pop into your head of what you see as healthy and what is a healthy life to you.”
As a mother, Wroe practices what she preaches. “One is to serve them but also with that is for you as the parent to serve and eat them too, because it really all boils down to modeling. If the vegetables on your plate and you are eating and savoring it, that’s the key,” Wroe said. She acknowledges picky eating phases but emphasizes consistent exposure to healthy foods through touching, smelling, cooking, and eating.
