Mukdahan Province Prepares for Rising Mekong River Waters
The Mekong River is expected to rise another 1.65 meters, reaching a critical point. Mukdahan Province Governor orders officials to be ready 24 hours a day to deal with the mass of water if it comes unexpectedly.
On September 15, 2024, Mr. Worayan Bunnarat, Governor of Mukdahan Province, led the working group of the Mukdahan Provincial Incident Command Center to check the water level in the Mekong River at the mouth of Huai Muk and the Indochina market. The water level of the Mekong has not yet reached the critical point (12.50 meters), with no impact on agricultural and fishing areas.
Mr. Worayan Bunnarat, Governor of Mukdahan Province, has rehearsed the operations of various agencies, preparing for the situation where the water level in the Mekong River will rise. Personnel have been assigned to the Mukdahan Provincial Flood Command Center to coordinate operations and give orders 24 hours a day, as well as publicize the water levels and alert the public.

Mukdahan province has a plan to prepare for the unexpected water inflow, including preparing the area to set up a temporary shelter, machines, tools, vehicles, and personnel to respond to disaster areas, economic areas, and transportation routes.

Mukdahan Municipality has distributed 3,000 sandbags to serve the people and trained staff to prepare for accidents in low-lying areas that may occur suddenly.
