First Lady Melania Trump is becoming increasingly proactive and abandoning her past preference for a low profile, a shift that is creating concern within the White House, according to a former Trump biographer.
Michael Wolff, a reporter and author known for his insider accounts of President Donald Trump’s administration, revealed these concerns on his Daily Beast podcast, “Inside Trump’s Head.” He stated that “The Melania of it all” has become a “matter of serious concern” for White House officials.
This increased visibility began earlier this year with the release of the documentary Melania, which received largely negative reviews and reportedly cost $60 million to produce, leading to accusations that Amazon MGM Studios funded the film as a means of gaining favor with the president.
More recently, the First Lady’s actions have drawn further attention, beginning with an unexpected press conference where she denied any close association with Jeffrey Epstein, bringing renewed scrutiny to her husband’s relationship with the convicted sex offender. She also called for the firing of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following a joke about her, reigniting a previous feud.
According to Wolff, the Trump administration now views the First Lady as a potential liability, a reversal from when she was considered a political asset.
“I’m having discussions with people I know in the White House, and there is a different side — a very different side — and it’s a side that is very concerning,” Wolff explained. “They feel that this has really engendered quite a bit of blowback. Number one, because the movie is ridiculous.”

Sources within the administration reportedly believe the dispute with Kimmel is also proving counterproductive, portraying President Trump as overly sensitive and willing to challenge free speech rights over personal grievances. This echoes a similar backlash experienced during a previous attempt to have Kimmel fired.
Wolff added that the Kimmel situation is “something that is backfiring.” The administration’s concerns stem from the perception that President Trump appears as a “crybaby” to the public.
The shift in perception comes as Melania Trump has taken on a more activist role in her second term, securing the return of Ukrainian children to their families, leading a UN Security Council session, hosting a world summit on technology and children, and championing legislation to support foster children. This contrasts with her more reserved approach during her husband’s first term and the 2024 presidential campaign.
