Car Rams Melbourne Shopping Center, terrifying Shoppers
Preston, Melbourne — Shoppers at Northland Shopping Center experienced a harrowing ordeal Wednesday afternoon when a car crashed through the building.
A white Landcruiser, reportedly evading police, drove through a door of the shopping center on murray Road around 4:10 p.m., according to Victoria Police.
Authorities said the male driver was believed to be the sole occupant of the vehicle. the car traveled through the middle of the shopping center.
While no one was struck by the vehicle, one woman was treated for shock at the scene. Paramedics assessed two people, but neither required hospitalization, said Ambulance Victoria.

Neary Ty, a reporter for Nine News who was inside a massage parlor at the time, described the chaotic scene. “All we could hear was screaming at a car driving through,” Ty said, adding that other shoppers reported hearing glass shattering.
According to Ty, one store went into lockdown as people tried to understand what was happening. “It was terrifying,” she said. “People were screaming, ‘Is there a gunman? What’s happening?'”
Police are still searching for the vehicle, which was last seen heading toward Wood Street.
The incident follows a recent brawl on May 25 in the center’s outdoor food court, where two groups of males, some allegedly armed with machetes, clashed, prompting a lockdown.
