Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team escaped with a hard-fought 82-78 overtime victory against the Cornell Big Red on Saturday night at the Carrier Dome.the game was a back-and-forth affair from the opening tip, with neither team able to establish a commanding lead. Cornell, led by senior guard Jordan Jones’ 25 points, kept pace with the Orange throughout regulation.
“Cornell played with a lot of heart tonight,” said Syracuse head coach jim Boeheim. “They made us work for every basket.”
With seconds remaining in regulation, Syracuse freshman Judah Mintz sank a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 70 and send it into overtime.

Overtime belonged to the Orange. Senior forward Jesse Edwards dominated the paint, scoring six of his 18 points in the extra period.
“Jesse was huge for us down the stretch,” Boeheim said. “He made some big plays when we needed them most.”
Mintz finished with 17 points and 5 assists, while junior guard Joe Girard III added 14 points for Syracuse.
The win improves Syracuse’s record to 6-2 on the season, while cornell falls to 4-4. The Orange will look to build on this momentum as they head into a tough stretch of conference play.
