Overview: Blurring the Lines Between GT Racing and formula 1

The Mercedes-AMG Motorsport ⁢team has unveiled the GT2 Edition W16,a special version of the Mercedes-AMG‍ GT2. First introduced in late 2022, the GT2 serves as a customer racing platform. This new Edition W16 takes that platform to another level, incorporating design elements and performance enhancements directly inspired by the current Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula⁣ One Team‘s W16 E Performance car. Kimi Antonelli, a rising star in Formula 1, serves as the patron of this exclusive model.

Performance Enhancements: Unleashing 830 Horsepower

The GT2 Edition ⁢W16 is not homologated for any specific racing series, granting Mercedes-AMG freedom‍ to prioritize performance above all else. It retains the core 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine ⁤from the standard GT2,but with notable‍ upgrades. New turbochargers and recalibrated engine electronics ⁤boost the engine’s output to an impressive 830 hp (610 kW).

Push2Pass Function: A Temporary surge of Power

The car’s peak performance is unlocked through the “Push2Pass” function. Activated by ⁣a button on the multifunction steering wheel, ⁤this system temporarily increases boost pressure, adding an extra 100 hp (73 kW) and 200 ⁣Nm of torque. this brings ⁢the maximum torque to a staggering 1,000 Nm. The⁤ Push2Pass system provides a strategic advantage for overtaking and maximizing track performance.

The resulting power-to-weight ratio is approximately 1.7 kg/hp, thanks to a curb weight of just 1,430 kg.Weight optimization is further achieved through the ⁤use of new⁤ magnesium rims, ⁢visually ⁢linked to the Formula 1 car’s wheel ⁣design.
