Power that easily surpassed that of the BMW M3 at the time
In the late 2000s, the German triumvirate of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz produced saloons that offered supercar-level driving performance and everyday practicality. The ultimate example of this is the W204 C 63 AMG, which we look back on this time.
Engineers in Affalterbach, Germany, wanted to break through the current situation of the C-Class, which had a large gap with the BMW M3. Thoroughly.
The W204 type C 63 AMG was released in 2008. A 6.2LV 8-cylinder engine was tucked inside the not-so-large hood. The naturally aspirated engine produces 457ps and 58.3kg-m, and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. It emits a powerful muscle car-like sound.
As expected, the C 63 AMG easily surpassed the BMW M3 at the time. After all, it was about 40ps and about 20kg-m higher.
However, AMG had prepared something even better. If you specify the optional Performance Pack Plus, maximum output increases to 486ps. It had more power than the 997 Porsche 911 Carrera and Chevrolet Corvette C6 at the time.
The aggressive styling was also clearly AMG. Another strength is that you can choose from three types: saloon (W204), coupe (C204), and station wagon (S204).
In terms of practicality for everyday use, the C 63 AMG station wagon is better than the Audi RS4 Avant from the same period. The luggage compartment capacity of the former was 460L, while the latter was larger at 495L.
All-rounder with excellent maneuverability
Autocar test drove it for the first time in 2007. It’s not just the wonders of its powertrain, but also its excellent dynamic capabilities. It has excellent maneuverability and has been described as an all-rounder better than the M3.
The interior has a high-class feel, and even when driving calmly, it feels special. However, the ride is stiff, especially in urban areas. This trend became even stronger when combined with the AMG suspension package and 19-inch wheels.

The W204 type underwent minor changes in 2011 and gained a 7-speed multi-clutch AT and an aluminum bonnet. The infotainment system has also been updated.
At the end of the model year, the C 63 Black Series was introduced, which was influenced by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar. Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h has been reduced to 4.2 seconds.
Regardless of the body style, the W204 type C 63 AMG remains attractive. It can be said that it is one of the best all-around high-performance models that can be considered in the current used car market.
