Wolff has confirmed his interest in perhaps signing Max Verstappen, the four-time world champion currently under contract with Red Bull through 2028. Speculation suggests⁤ Verstappen coudl trigger an exit ⁣clause if he finishes ​below fourth ⁤in the‌ championship standings after the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Wolff maintains that his interest in Verstappen does ⁣not effect ongoing discussions with Russell. He aims to resolve Russell’s situation during the ⁣four-week break.

“You need to be respectable towards the‌ stakeholders in all of that process,” ⁣Wolff said.”The institution, the drivers, everybody. You ⁣need to understand​ the ​way forward.” He added that he⁣ doesn’t want to keep any driver waiting unnecessarily and aims to make a decision before the summer break concludes, ​possibly “in the ‍middle” of​ it.

Red‌ Bull’s Christian Horner dismissed⁤ the ‌Mercedes-Verstappen speculation as “a lot of noise,” adding that​ Verstappen finds it annoying. ‍Verstappen​ himself has consistently avoided questions about a potential move to Mercedes. Russell‌ stated ⁤after winning the Canadian Grand Prix that he has not spoken with ⁣other teams and ⁢remains focused on racing⁢ for⁤ Mercedes. Andrea Kimi Antonelli joined Mercedes this year, but the length of his ​contract remains undisclosed.
