Meta Platforms is projected to surpass Alphabet’s Google in global digital advertising revenue by the end of 2026, marking the first time the search-engine giant will cede the top position in the industry.
According to projections from Emarketer, Meta is expected to generate $243.46 billion in global ad revenue in 2026. This figure would edge past Google’s projected revenue of $239.54 billion for the same period.
Shift in Global Ad Spend Share
The shift in revenue is accompanied by a change in the share of global advertising spend. Meta is expected to capture 26.8% of global ad spend, compared to 26.4% for Google.
This represents a reversal of the market dynamic seen just a few years ago, as the social media network gains a larger portion of the overall advertising market.
Drivers of Meta’s Growth
The transition in market leadership is attributed to evolving advertiser priorities. Businesses are increasingly prioritizing platforms that can combine scale with automation and provide a measurable return on ad spend.

Emarketer estimates indicate that worldwide ad growth for Meta is expected to rise from 22.1% in 2025 to 24.1% in 2026.
Google’s Market Position
Google’s advertising business, which includes YouTube and the Google Ad Network encompassing search and display ads, continues to grow.
However, this growth is occurring at a slower pace than that of its competitor, leading to the projected loss of its top spot in digital ad revenue.
