Meta is working to catch up with AI leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic. The company recently postponed the release of its Behemoth model, reportedly due to performance issues. Several top researchers have also left the company.
according to Mayham, Meta’s Llama 4 models have faced “significant performance issues.” He suggested that Mark Zuckerberg is banking on Wang’s expertise in AI infrastructure to resolve Meta’s model quality and alignment challenges faster than internal efforts. Mayham added that Scale AI’s human feedback loops are crucial for Meta’s llama models to compete with ChatGPT and Claude in terms of reliability.
Wang believes data quality is critical to resolving these performance problems. In a note to Scale AI employees, posted on X, he stated that data was the “lifeblood of AI systems” when he founded the company in 2016.
