Metro Detroit Families Find Winter Fun at Festivals This February

February in Metro Detroit offers a wealth of winter festivals designed to turn cold days into memorable adventures for families. From ice sculptures and outdoor games to live entertainment and warming bonfires, these events provide opportunities to embrace the season.

World of Winter in Grand Rapids

The World of Winter, a free outdoor festival, is currently open daily through March 1 in downtown Grand Rapids. The festival features larger-than-life art installations, interactive ice activities, and selfie stations along the Grand River. Belle Isle and Great Lakes Dossin Museum Event – February 7

On Saturday, February 7, a family-friendly event will be held at the Belle Isle Nature Center and Great Lakes Dossin Museum. The event aims to educate attendees about natural resources through engaging activities for all ages.

Depot Park Winter Activities – February 7

Also on Saturday, February 7, Depot Park will host an event featuring ice skating, a hockey shooting contest, fires with s’mores, and live music.

Multiple Festivals on Saturday, February 7

Saturday, February 7, is a particularly busy day for winter festivals in the region. WinterFest, a free annual event, will celebrate the Michigan winter season with ice sculptures, a petting farm, and unicorn rides. Indoor restrooms and a warming area will be available.

Wayne County Parks’ Winter Wonderland at Elizabeth Park in Trenton will also take place on February 7. This free, family-friendly event will include hayrides, crafts, scenic hikes, an outdoor dance party, a bonfire, live ice carving demonstrations, rock climbing, inflatable games, and costume characters.

Friends of Rouge Park will host its annual winter festival on February 7, promising a fun-filled day with winter-time treats and activities in Detroit’s west side park.

February 14 Events: Fireworks, Lunar New Year, and More

Saturday, February 14, offers a diverse range of activities. Waterford Oaks County Park will host “Fireworks and Flannels Cozy Night Out,” a free winter celebration with horse-drawn wagon rides, a petting farm, live music, food trucks, sledding, crafts, face painting, and a fireworks display. An illuminated walking path will also be open on select dates in February and early March.

The Michigan Taiwanese American Organization (MITAI) will present an interactive Lunar New Year celebration featuring a parade, lion and dragon dances, arts and crafts, and musical performances.

Hartland Township will host a day of family activities, including sledding, entertainment, food, and ice skating, culminating in a fireworks show at dusk.

An event will feature several ice sculptures, bonfires, food trucks, s’mores, and ice skating.

Ice Carving and Games – February 28

On Saturday, February 28, attendees can observe pre-carved ice designs and watch live ice carving demonstrations. Games such as disc golf and curling will also be available.
