Mew Plays Final Show at London’s Roundhouse, Marking End of Three-Decade Run
After three decades together, Danish alt-rock band Mew has played its final show, bringing an end to a celebrated career. The performance took place at the Roundhouse in London on .
The band initially announced their disbandment in 2024, with plans for a final performance in Copenhagen’s Royal Arena in May 2025. Those plans evolved, leading to additional dates and culminating in the Roundhouse show as their definitive farewell.
The setlist spanned the band’s discography, featuring a range of well-known songs. The concert concluded with the performance of ‘Comforting Sounds,’ marking the last song Mew would play live as a band.
The show drew attendees from across the music industry, including producer Rich Costey, known for his work with artists such as Foo Fighters, Sam Fender, My Chemical Romance, and Muse. Costey, who previously produced Mew’s “Frengers” LP, shared his reflections on the band’s impact on his career and their enduring “magic” in an Instagram post.
“A very special and bittersweet evening at The Roundhouse in London as Danish band Mew play their final show with singer Jonas Bjerre,” Costey wrote. He recalled being brought in to produce them early in his career, noting their appreciation for the band The Swirlies, who were also his first production. “Enthusiastic and risk-taking A&R for Columbia Jonnie Blackburn endorsed the idea and we ended up making the Frengers LP. My memory of that process is nothing but good, partly due to their interest in adventure but also their goodness as people. Hard to explain but there’s just some magic about them. I’m sad to see this chapter go, but also thrilled that it even happened in the first place. We worked on many other things together and they never lost their ability to cast a spell. Thank you, Jonas, Johan, Silas and yes Bo.”
Frontman Jonas Bjerre previously announced his personal decision to conclude his time with Mew, citing a desire to pursue other creative projects. In a statement to fans, Bjerre expressed gratitude for the band’s 30-year journey and the support of their fanbase, affectionately known as “Frengers.”
“Dearest Frengers, Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Mew! It’s been quite a journey, that’s brought me and my lovely band mates on countless adventures, for which I am eternally grateful. And none of it could have happened if not for you Frengers and your support. This is something I’ve never taken for granted, and never will,” Bjerre wrote.
He continued, “For me, this journey will be coming to an end. Next year will be my last year with Mew. I have come to the realisation that it’s time for me personally to embark on a different journey, and focus on other creative projects. I am so happy that we get to play these farewell shows, and that I get to go on one last trip with my dear friends and co-founders Johan and Silas, as well as the Doc and Mads Wegner.”
The band members collectively reflected on their 30 years together, acknowledging the improbable nature of their longevity. “Nobody in their right mind would have imagined us still being here back in 1995, when we started out, making noise in Jonas’ teenage bedroom. But we did! Maybe we were out of our minds, on a mission. We dared to dream, and dream big together,” they said in a joint statement.
“Today we have been around the world, played more shows than People can remember and yet it feels just like yesterday, sitting there in that noisy bedroom trying to become a band,” Mew added. “We want to invite all of our Frengers around the world to a celebration of our 30 years of being Mew. We are beyond excited to play these shows as they mark a truly exceptional occasion for us, for you and for Mew.”
