Tragic Accident in Zontecomatlán
At least eight people were killed and nineteen injured in a bus accident in the Mexican state of Veracruz on December 24, 2025. the crash occurred near a ravine in the town of Zontecomatlán, as reported by local authorities.
According to official statements,the bus was traveling from Mexico City to Chicontepec when the incident occurred. Emergency services transported the nineteen injured individuals to hospitals in Chicontepec and Huayacocotla for medical attention.
Recurring Issue of Road Safety in Mexico
Bus and truck accidents are unfortunately common occurrences on Mexico’s highways. Contributing factors often include excessive speed and mechanical failures in vehicles. This latest tragedy follows a similar incident in late November, where ten people died and twenty were injured in a bus crash in the state of Michoacán.
