A tanker carrying 85,000 barrels of crude oil from Mexico arrived in Havana this Friday,as Mexico steps up its role as a key energy supplier to Cuba during Venezuela’s ongoing crisis.
The Ocean Mariner tanker departed the Petróleos mexicanos (Pemex) terminal in Pajaritos, Coatzacoalcos, on January 5th, bound for the Ñico López refinery in Havana, according to Jorge Piñón, a researcher at the University of Texas.
Pemex did not confirm this details when contacted by AFP.
President Claudia Sheinbaum acknowledged this week that, given the crisis in Venezuela, “Mexico naturally becomes an notable provider” to the island nation. She responded to a question about a report from the British newspaper [Newspaper Name – Link to report] during her regular press conference.
