About the Miami International Autodrome

The Miami International Autodrome, which hosted its first Grand Prix in 2022, is a temporary circuit designed to feel permanent. Located within the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens, home of the Miami Dolphins, the track was developed through a process of simulating 36 different layouts. The resulting 5.412km layout features 19 corners and three long straights, with speeds exceeding 350km/h. The circuit also incorporates elevation changes, particularly between Turns 13 and 16, adding to the challenge for drivers.

The track’s design aims to provide a street circuit vibe, similar to Melbourne’s Albert Park. The inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022 marked the second US race on the Formula 1 calendar, making Florida the 11th different American venue to host a round of the championship.

Preparing for the Challenge

Teams and drivers are preparing to tackle the unique challenges presented by the Miami circuit. The combination of high speeds, tight corners, and elevation changes requires precise car setup and strategic tire management. The Sprint format adds another layer of complexity, with drivers having limited opportunities to fine-tune their cars before the main race.

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team recently gave Doriane Pin the opportunity to drive an F1 car for the first time, providing valuable experience as she continues her development within the team’s junior program.

The Miami Grand Prix is considered a significant test for teams, particularly Mercedes, as they evaluate young drivers like Kimi Antonelli for potential future opportunities. The U.S. Represents a key market for Formula 1, and the performance of teams and drivers in Miami will be closely watched.
