Miami Holds Off Florida State, 83-73, in ACC Matchup
– TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Florida State Seminoles 83-73 Tuesday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest. Malik Reneau led Miami with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Tre Donaldson contributed 21 points, six assists, and six rebounds.
The Hurricanes (22-6, 11-4 ACC) led by as many as 11 points late in the fourth quarter, with 3:16 remaining in regulation, but the Seminoles mounted a comeback attempt, narrowing the deficit to four points. However, Miami closed the game on an 8-2 run to secure the victory.
Reneau’s performance marked his 16th game this season scoring 20 or more points, and his eighth double-double of the year. He currently ranks fifth in the ACC in scoring. Miami shot efficiently from the field, connecting on 53% of their shots and 43% from beyond the arc. The team entered the game leading the ACC in field goal percentage and ranking 11th nationally in that category.
Miami established a 38-32 lead at halftime, fueled by 10 points from Tru Washington in the opening frame. Washington also finished the game with a game-high four steals.
For Florida State (14-14, 7-8 ACC), Lajae Jones led the scoring with 21 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field. Chauncey Wiggins added 14 points and five rebounds for the Seminoles.
The Hurricanes’ victory solidifies their position atop the ACC standings. They will next host Boston College on Saturday.
Florida State will be on the road Saturday, visiting Georgia Tech.
Miami shot 53% from the floor, making 31 of 59 attempts. They were 9-of-21 on three-point shots, a 43% clip. From the free throw line, they made 12 of 19, for 63%. Florida State shot 46% from the field, going 27-of-59. They were 8-of-28 on three-pointers, 29%, and 11-of-16 from the free throw line, 69%.
Miami recorded 42 rebounds, with Reneau grabbing 12. Florida State had 23 rebounds, led by Wiggins with five.
The Hurricanes committed 18 turnovers, while the Seminoles had 12. Donaldson led Miami with six assists.
According to ESPN Analytics, Miami led for 92% of the game, with their largest lead being 11 points.
