A Preseason of Uncertainty
ARLINGTON, Texas – As the Dallas Cowboys concluded their preseason schedule with a 31-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, august 22nd,the focus quickly shifted from on-field performance to the contract situation surrounding star linebacker Micah Parsons. The events leading up to and during the game have amplified the speculation surrounding his long-term future with the team.
The unusual evening began around 4:35 p.m. CT, roughly two and a half hours before kickoff. Parsons, enjoying nachos, was greeted by an Atlanta Falcons fan who playfully urged him to join their team, prompting Parsons to jokingly gesture for the fan to ”call him.” This lighthearted moment was followed by similar interactions with cheering fans as he approached the locker room.
Sideline Signals and a Back Issue
During the game itself, Parsons’ behavior drew further attention. He was the only Cowboys player not wearing a jersey, opting rather for a navy hoodie with gray sleeves and a winter hat. More notably, he spent time lying down on the medical table behind the bench as the offence was on the field.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer admitted he wasn’t aware of Parsons’ actions, stating, “I was calling the game.” However, the incident sparked immediate discussion and speculation about parsons’ commitment and potential dissatisfaction.
Adding to the concern, cornerback Trevon Diggs revealed after the game that Parsons underwent an MRI on his back Friday, indicating a continuing issue with back tightness that Parsons has acknowledged throughout the summer, beginning in june minicamp and persisting into training camp.
