Parsons is entering the final year of his contract, set to earn just over $24 million in 2025. given his performance and impact, he is seeking a long-term deal that reflects his value as one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers. A holdout could escalate negotiations, but Schottenheimer believes Parsons remains engaged with the team.
Stephen Jones, Cowboys COO and EVP, acknowledged the contract situation as part of the business, refraining from further comment.
As entering the league, Parsons has consistently delivered, recording at least 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons, a feat unmatched in NFL history. He boasts a total of 52.5 sacks in 63 career games.
The Cowboys’ delay in securing Parsons has potentially increased the financial stakes, with the pass-rush market already seeing significant resets this offseason. Parsons’ representatives may aim to surpass Myles Garrett’s $40 million average annual value.
“Being present doesn’t necessarily mean being here all the time. Doesn’t even necessarily mean having to practice,” Schottenheimer said.
