Michelin 24H Series to Make African Debut at Kyalami in January 2027

A Historic Shift to Midrand

International endurance racing promoter CREVENTIC confirmed the relocation on September 18, 2026. The move shifts the established January fixture away from the Gulf region, driven by ongoing transport planning challenges, logistics costs, and regional uncertainty.

Breaking Two Decades of Tradition

Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit chief executive Toby Venter confirmed the venue’s role in hosting the championship round.

While the circuit has previously staged international endurance competitions such as the Kyalami 9 Hour, the 2027 event marks the first time South Africa will host a full 24-hour international motor race. CREVENTIC noted that the decision to relocate was reached in consultation with the affected venues after two decades of running the endurance opener in Dubai.

Calendar Revisions and Postponements

The relocation ripples across the broader calendar. Two previously announced races in Abu Dhabi, which had been planned for December and January, are postponed until the 2027 and 2028 racing campaigns.

The January slot at Kyalami replaces the Dubai event rather than acting as an additional round on the winter calendar. Team registrations are currently open ahead of the January start, with preparations underway at the Midrand circuit.

Endurance Demands and European Return

The Michelin 24H Series caters to GT and touring cars. Eligible vehicle classes include GT3, GTX, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, GT4, and touring cars.

A 24-hour endurance race requires teams to manage constant track competition, with multiple drivers sharing a single car across day and night cycles. Pit stops involving fuel, tyres, mechanical maintenance, and race strategy play a defining role alongside outright vehicle speed.

Following the South African season opener, the championship will return to Europe in March 2027 for scheduled events at Mugello, Spa-Francorchamps, the Red Bull Ring, Paul Ricard, and Barcelona.
