Wolverines Add Quarterback Transfer Jake Garcia to Roster

Ann Arbor, Mich. — The Michigan Wolverines have secured a commitment from quarterback Jake Garcia,a transfer with experience at multiple programs. Garcia, once a top-25 recruit, aims to provide valuable depth behind highly-touted freshman Bryce Underwood. The Wolverines football program is focused on solidifying it’s quarterback options for the upcoming season.
Last season at East Carolina, Garcia threw for 1,426 yards, with eight touchdowns but also 12 interceptions. This marked his most significant playing time at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level. His addition addresses Michigan’s need for experienced backup quarterbacks.
Garcia was the No. 23-rated recruit in the 2021 class. He initially signed with Miami, where he played for two seasons, battling injuries. In 2023, he transferred to Missouri but did not see game action. He then moved to East Carolina, initially securing the starting job before Katin Houser, a Michigan State transfer, took over.
Mikey Keene, a Fresno State transfer, is expected to return for preseason camp after missing spring practice due to injury. Davis Warren, who started for Michigan early in 2024 but is recovering from ACL surgery, will also compete. sophomores Jadyn Davis and Chase Herbstreit, son of ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, round out the quarterback room.
