Elliot Cadeau, the starting point guard for the University of Michigan men’s basketball team, has rejoined his teammates in Indianapolis for the Final Four following a hospitalization for an allergic reaction.
Cadeau, a junior who averages 10.2 points and 5.8 assists per game, returned to the team on April 2, 2026, to participate in media activities and pregame promotional events at Lucas Oil Stadium. His return follows a medical emergency on April 1, 2026, that required immediate hospital treatment in Ann Arbor.
Details of the Allergic Reaction
The medical scare began on the afternoon of April 1, 2026, when Cadeau alerted medical personnel that he believed he was experiencing an allergic reaction. The reaction was caused by accidental exposure to nuts; specifically, Cadeau identified that he had eaten something containing cashews.
The incident was captured in a video posted to X by Detroit radio station WWJ 950, which showed an individual covered by a white blanket being wheeled out of Michigan’s player development center on a gurney and loaded into an ambulance. Michigan later confirmed the individual was Cadeau, noting that he received medical supervision out of an abundance of caution.
Cadeau explained that while he had a severe reaction to the drupe as a child, this specific incident was less critical. He described the hospitalization as a precaution to prevent the reaction from worsening, noting that he experienced a little bit of hives
.
I just ate something I was allergic to. Went to the hospital just as a precaution, tried to make sure it wasn’t gonna get bad.

Return to the Final Four
While his teammates were flying to Indianapolis, Cadeau spent the night of April 1 in Ann Arbor. He was driven to Indianapolis on the morning of April 2 by a Michigan staff member to reunite with the team ahead of scheduled locker-room interviews.

Upon his arrival, Cadeau appeared in his jersey featuring the Final Four patch. He characterized the event as just a minor inconvenience for me
and indicated he was ready to rejoin the team’s preparations.
Michigan coach Dusty May expressed relief regarding the point guard’s condition, stating that Cadeau is fine
and describing the player as a warrior
.
It shows him how much he means to his teammates. They were very concerned … Just grateful he’s fine, we have great medical care and he’s back with us.
