When asked to name five matches he would want preserved forever,Foley highlighted a diverse range of contests from throughout his career. These matches showcase his versatility and willingness to push the boundaries of professional wrestling.
Among the matches Foley listed was his “Mind Games” encounter with Shawn Michaels in September 1996, a “Backlash” match against Randy Orton from May 2004, and a brutal New York City Street Fight against Triple H in January 2000. He also included a surprising house show match with Vader in Manchester, U.K., noting its unexpected intensity.
Perhaps most notably, Foley cited his first Japanese no-rope, barbed-wire deathmatch against Terry Funk on Jan. 10, 1995. He emphasized the importance of that match in putting the promotion on the map.
“We tore it down because we understood that the Japanese media contingent was there and half a million fans where going to see what we did… It was more brutal than the cell… It does hold up, I think, as an example of the lengths we were willing to go to put this little promotion on the map.”
