Clare Barclay Appointed as President of Enterprise and Industry for EMEA
Clare Barclay has been appointed as the president of enterprise and industry for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. She will be retiring from her role as Microsoft UK CEO, a position she has held since October 2020. Barclay will be responsible for driving growth and digital transformation across 120 EMEA markets, working closely with partners and startups to encourage the adoption of AI tools.
Barclay’s track record includes partnerships with companies such as London Stock Exchange Group, Vodafone, and Thornsbury, with a focus on artificial intelligence.
Darren Hardman Appointed as New Microsoft UK CEO
Darren Hardman will take over as Microsoft UK CEO on November 1, replacing Clare Barclay. Hardman joined Microsoft in May 2023 with the goal of leading the company into its next phase of growth. He previously held roles including CEO of Amazon Web Services UK and Ireland and worked on the government’s Digital Skills Commission.
Microsoft’s Investment in the UK
Microsoft has around 6,000 employees in the UK, headquartered in Reading, with offices in Paddington, Manchester, and Edinburgh. The company’s UK partner network covers more than 34,000 local companies. In November 2023, Microsoft made its largest single investment in the UK in its 40-year history, investing 2.5 billion pounds to expand the capacity, capabilities, and security of AI. This investment will increase Microsoft’s infrastructure across the UK by more than times.
