Microsoft IQ, an evolution of its Fabric IQ data context layer, integrates four distinct context sources into a unified system. These include:

• Work IQ, which captures daily operations through emails, documents, meetings and schedules to inform agents about workflows and teams.
• Foundry IQ, which curates institutional knowledge to define organizational rules and procedures.
• Fabric IQ, which models real-time business operations using data from Microsoft’s Real-Time Intelligence.
• Web IQ, which provides global contextual signals from the internet to supplement internal data.

Amir Netz, CTO of Microsoft Fabric, compared the data platform to the "green screen" in The Matrix, explaining that it builds the foundational reality for agents. "Our job in the world of data is creating reality for agents based on data," he said.

Rayfin, a new open-source SDK and CLI, addresses the second half of the problem: application deployment. By routing agent-built applications directly into Microsoft Fabric, Rayfin ensures that data flows into OneLake, the company’s unified data lake, and feeds back into the Microsoft IQ context layer. This contrasts with alternatives like Supabase and Neon, which lack governance and risk creating isolated silos.
