Police Crack Down on Drunk Driving and Other Crimes During Mid-Autumn Festival
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the police launched a crackdown on drunk driving, drug driving, and other crimes, resulting in the arrest of 11 individuals.
Enforcement Operations
Officers from the Traffic Control and Enforcement Section of the Western Kowloon Region conducted enforcement operations to combat “drunken driving”, “drug-impaired driving”, “illegal racing”, “speeding”, and “illegal modification operations”. The operation led to the arrest of 8 local men and 3 local women, aged between 28 and 50.
Among those arrested, 1 man was suspected of “trafficking dangerous drugs”, 1 woman was suspected of “possession of dangerous drugs”, 2 men and 1 woman were suspected of “driving with a suspended license”, “driving without third-party insurance”, and “allowing others to drive with a suspended license”. The remaining five men and one woman were suspected of “drunken driving”. All those arrested have been released on bail pending further investigation and are due to report to police in mid-October.
Modified Vehicles and Speeding
During the operation, officers also used stealth vehicles to patrol expressways in the district, focusing on combating illegal racing and speeding activities. A total of 8 private cars suspected of being illegally modified or not in compliance with the law were discovered. The vehicles were suspected of having undergone modifications, including modified “dead air pipe“, rear spoiler protruding from the body, modified steering wheel, and broken windshield.
The vehicles in question were detained at the Kowloon Bay Vehicle Storage and Inspection Center for further inspection. Officers also issued defective vehicle reports to three vehicles. Additionally, digital radar detection was installed at various locations in West Kowloon, detecting a total of 123 vehicles involved in speeding. The police will subsequently issue a summons to the drivers involved.
Continued Enforcement
The Traffic Department of Western Kowloon Region will continue to strengthen law enforcement against illegal racing, illegally modified vehicles, and other traffic violations. Through strict traffic control actions, the police aim to ensure smooth roads, protect public safety, and improve road users’ awareness of road safety.
The police appeal to motorists not to act against the law and to prioritize road safety.
