Edwards Hired to manage Middlesbrough Football Club

Middlesbrough has tapped Rob Edwards as its new manager, following the dismissal of michael carrick earlier in June. carrick’s sacking came after consecutive seasons without a Championship play-off appearance, despite a prior play-off qualification where they lost to Coventry City.
Edwards, 42, brings a track record of success, having guided Luton Town to Premier League promotion, even though they experienced subsequent relegations. He resigned from Luton in January.
After considering candidates such as Steve Cooper and Danny Rohl, Middlesbrough’s Head of Football, Kieran Scott, cited Edwards’ extraordinary managerial history as a key factor in his appointment. Scott noted Edwards’ achievements at Forest Green Rovers and Luton Town.
“Rob is someone who I’ve been aware of for a long time,” Scott said. “We felt that Rob was the stand-out and were very impressed upon meeting him.”
Edwards acknowledged the importance of the role. “It’s something that’s not lost on me, how big this is,” he said. Adi Viveash and Harry Watling will join Edwards as assistant coaches.
Edwards’ managerial career includes a stint as interim manager at Wolves,followed by a season at Telford and a role as England Under-16s manager. He led Forest Green Rovers to a League Two title in 2022 before a brief period with Watford. Luton Town hired him shortly after Watford let him go.
