Midnight Mayhem: Barisal University and BM College Students Engage in Bloody Brawl – What Sparked the Violence

Barisal University and BM College Students Clash, Leaving Many Injured

Students of University of‌ Barisal (BOB) and ⁢Brajmohan Govt College‍ (BM) have been​ involved in a bloody clash, leaving hundreds injured on both sides.

According to reports, the‌ tension between​ the students of the two institutions exploded in the middle of the night on Tuesday, resulting in a violent clash. Three ‌buses and a BM College student hostel were vandalized during the incident.

Barisal University authorities have announced a holiday on Thursday due to the spread of unrest in the ⁤area.

BM college students held ​a press conference and protest, accusing some students of Barisal University of extortion and giving an ultimatum to solve the issue within 12 hours. If not, they warned that Barisal will be immobilized.

However, Barisal University students held a press conference, accusing some students of BM College⁣ of extortion.

Under the circumstances, ‍Barisal Regional Commissioner Md. Shaukat Ali held an emergency meeting with ‌the principals of‍ two educational institutions this afternoon.

It was learned that there was​ a⁢ fight between the students of Barisal University and BM College on Monday night while trying to settle ‌a dispute over land on the Baptist ⁣Mission ‍Road in the city. At that time, the student coordinator of BM College, Mostafizur Rahman, was busted ⁢on charges of extortion.

On Tuesday, two Barisal University students, Eamon and Rafin, were⁣ beaten up and handed over to the army by BM College⁢ students on ​charges of extortion. After hearing the news, Barisal University students came to the city in 3 buses and vandalized some buses of BM College. The student residence of Banmali Ganguly was attacked.

As a result of this incident, two sides clashed⁢ between 11:30 pm and 3 pm on Tuesday.‍ At least 100 people were ‌injured on both ​sides.

Professor of administrative ⁢and financial responsibility⁢ at the ‌University of Barisal, Dr. Mohammad Mohsin Uddin said that 72 students from Babir have been injured so far in the conflict. ⁣They were admitted to Shebachim ​Hospital. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

Shamim Ahmed, a ⁤student of Barisal University who was admitted to Shebachim Hospital said, “We went to BM ⁢College to discuss. They ⁤had already prepared to attack us.”

Mehdi Hasan, another student, said,⁣ “Since our brothers are stuck, Bobby’s students are going to bring them‍ back.” We were unarmed. But they (BM ‌College) ‌launched an armed attack around 1 am on​ Tuesday.

BM college students held a press ⁣conference on the campus and drew attention to the whole issue. In a written statement, Sabbir Hossain Sohag, a student in the Department of ​Economics, said that some students ​of Barisal University demanded 60,000 taka from a poor ​man.⁤ They were‌ kept in Battala. Babi students‌ later attacked the Alekanda police‍ outpost. Ganguli’s Banmali hostel was attacked. 5 buses were vandalized.

In the press ​conference,​ it was said​ that the entire Barisal will be immobilized if there is no fair answer within the next 12 hours. No bus of Barisal University is allowed to travel within ⁣Barisal. No university student can live in the city.

Sohag said that some students of Barisal University have committed extortion and terrorism. This attack‍ is part of terrorism.

Later around 5 pm, BM college students staged a protest march on the ⁤campus.

On⁤ the other hand, the students of the university held a press conference this afternoon to protest the attack of BM college students‌ on ‌common‌ students.

The juniors fined the bus authority Tk 40,000. Later, when they ⁣came to collect the rest of⁢ the money, the BM College students beat up two people named Eamon and Ruffin.

He said, ‍what happened ‌is equal. One of them was⁢ beaten on charges of extortion and two of us ‍were also beaten on charges of extortion. Many were injured in the night fighting. If someone comes⁢ to arbitrate​ the exchange of money, he urged them to‌ hand it ⁢over.

In this​ regard, ‍Barisal University Registrar Monirul Islam said that many of their⁣ students were injured. A class exam cannot be held without them. Because ‌of ‍this, one day of holiday⁣ has been declared. Apart from that they have made an internal investigation committee. Faculty of Law Dean⁤ Suprabhat Halder is the convener ‌of the committee.

The Principal of Barisal College BM Professor Dr. Aminul Haque said that a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the divisional commissioner this afternoon. DIG, Police Commissioner,⁢ Army representative, DC and two heads of organizations‍ were present. A liaison committee has been formed at the meeting. An administrative​ person⁣ of the rank of Joint Secretary will ⁣be its convener. Both sides of the students have been encouraged to avoid any further heated situation. A committee has also⁤ been formed by the college.

In this regard, Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said this afternoon that the situation is currently calm. The ⁢police are alert to this incident. However, no⁤ complaint was made by any party.

Prof. Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, ‌Convener of the Barisal Teachers’ Workers’ Unity Council, said that the students ‍had established their rights by protesting. Now ⁢a ‌class of people go to them and mislead the⁣ students with different accusations. In this opportunity, class has gone to extortion. He​ thinks the administration will expose those⁤ who extort money in the name of⁢ arbitration.
