Florida State head coach Mike Norvell provided updates on several key injuries and roster absences as the Seminoles prepare to host Virginia on October 3, 2026, following a 2-2 start to the season. The team has dealt with mounting physical setbacks across the two-deep on both sides of the ball through the first four games, thinning the roster ahead of Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Defensive Absences and Injury Statuses
The Seminoles played their recent win over Central Arkansas without several defensive starters, including sophomore defensive end Darryll Desir and senior cornerback Quindarrius Jones. Desir missed the loss to SMU before returning in a limited capacity against Alabama, while Jones’s specific injury cause remains unstated in team reports. Norvell noted that Desir has missed early opportunities and recorded just two tackles across two appearances, while Jones has dealt with situational issues after forcing a turnover in each of his first two games. Senior linebacker Caleb LaVallee also missed the Central Arkansas matchup after sustaining an injury in Tuscaloosa that required him to be assisted off the field. LaVallee has accumulated six tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass deflection this season. Florida State remains thin at linebacker with Blake Nichelson and Izayia Williams already sidelined.
It was each of those guys dealing with different issues. Caleb, unfortunately, went down last week and was unable to make it back. Obviously, Darryll’s had a couple of missed opportunities. Q’s dealing with a few issues. Situational issues that they’re all working through.

Wide Receiver Additions and Upcoming Schedule
On the offensive side, sophomore wide receiver Tae’Shaun Gelsey has not yet made his season debut, though Norvell expressed optimism about his availability for the upcoming weekend. Meanwhile, freshman pass-catcher Devin Carter continues working through his recovery process following a preseason injury that has left the receiving corps short-handed.
Hopefully we’ll get Tae’Shaun back in action here this next week. But seeing that we’ve been really thin in that regard, Devin Carter is still working through his process of getting back.
