Mike Waltz Supports Maria Corina Machado as a Symbol of Hope for Venezuelans

On November 20, 2024, Mike Waltz, the future National Security Advisor to elected President Donald Trump, spoke about Maria Corina Machado. He emphasized that Machado remains a beacon of hope for Venezuelans who oppose Nicolás Maduro’s government.

Waltz made this statement in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed pride in the House of Representatives’ approval of the “Bolivar Law.” This bipartisan legislation aims to prevent the U.S. government from doing business with anyone connected to Maduro’s regime.

Waltz stated, “Venezuela is in crisis due to the illegitimate and authoritarian government and the Marxist policies of Nicolás Maduro and his cartels.” He added, “Our policy should support brave activists who are fighting against oppression, not aid their oppressors.”

The Bolivar Law specifically prohibits the U.S. government from contracting with businesses that operate with Maduro’s regime or any successor government not recognized by the United States.
