Milad Warns of FIFA Sanctions for Separating Federation from ANFP
Chilean Soccer Federation President Warns of FIFA Sanctions Over Proposed Legislation
madrid, Spain – Chile’s Under-20 national team secured a crucial victory against Qatar on Tuesday, winning 2-1 with goals from Agustín Arce and Damián Pizarro. The match, held in spain, drew a crowd of Chilean soccer dignitaries, including pablo Milad, president of the Chilean Football Federation (ANFP).
Milad took the opportunity to address the ongoing debate surrounding a proposed law that seeks to separate the ANFP from the Chilean Football Federation.Speaking to reporters, Milad emphasized the need for the ANFP’s voice to be heard in the legislative process.
“I spoke extensively with Senator Matías Walker regarding the observations we made,” Milad stated. “First and foremost, they need to listen to us because we are the primary stakeholders in this matter. We understand the shortcomings, the necessities, and our concerns have not been addressed. We have sent numerous letters requesting a dialog, but we haven’t received any responses.”
The proposed legislation aims to divide the ANFP from the federation, limit the role of representatives, and restrict the involvement of limited liability companies (sociedades anónimas) in chilean soccer.
Milad expressed particular concern about the lack of transparency surrounding club ownership. “We wont to avoid ‘white sticks,’ meaning ensuring that sociedades anónimas are owned by individuals, not hidden entities,” he explained.”We need to reach the natural persons and eliminate multi-ownership structures. We need to know who the real owners of the clubs are because, unfortunately, we are limited by the law when they present a sociedad anónima.”
He stressed the importance of a transparent system that clearly identifies the ultimate owners of clubs. ”The most complex aspect is multi-ownership,” Milad added. ”We want clubs to be owned by individuals who are accountable and willing to show their faces. This is what we are striving for, what everyone desires, but sometiems, the owners themselves hide behind ‘white sticks’ that we cannot legally expose.”
Milad issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of the proposed legislation. “If there is interference in the ANFP and the federation, it will result in official sanctions from FIFA,” he cautioned. “I have conveyed this to Minister Pizarro and several others. FIFA considers intervening in a private and sporting institution like the ANFP as political interference, wich leads to international suspension and the cancellation of all participation, including club participation in CONMEBOL tournaments. We could even lose the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup.”
