Milan’s Milanese Mindset: Coach Downplays Real Madrid Clash, Eyes Monza Match as Top Priority
Milan Coach Paolo Fonseca on Real Madrid Clash
Milan coach Paolo Fonseca is undaunted by the prospect of facing defending champions Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Italian side hosts Real Madrid in the fourth round of the competition on Tuesday.
In a statement to DAZN, Fonseca emphasized the importance of securing points to improve Milan’s position in the standings. “On Tuesday, we face Real Madrid, but it doesn’t matter if it’s Real Madrid or another team, we need points to improve our position in the standings.”
Fonseca expressed his enthusiasm for the match, saying, “I hope it will be a great night for all of us.” He also downplayed the significance of facing Real Madrid, stating, “I’m always excited for every match and I don’t think facing Real Madrid is more important than the Monza match.”
Milan recently secured a 1-0 victory over Monza in the 11th round of the Italian league, with Tijani Rainers scoring the only goal of the match. Rafael Leo, the Dutch midfielder, made a notable appearance, coming off the bench in the 63rd minute to replace Noah Okafor.
Notably, Rafael Leo has scored in two consecutive matches for the first time since joining Milan, including a two-goal performance against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
The win over Monza lifted Milan to seventh place with 17 points, with a game in hand and 8 points behind Napoli. In contrast, Monza, under Alessandro Nesta, suffered their second consecutive loss and are currently in eighteenth place with 8 points.
