Milan’s Monza Matchup Takes Center Stage: Coach Downplays Real Madrid Hype
Milan Coach Paolo Fonseca on Real Madrid Clash
Milan coach Paolo Fonseca is undaunted by the prospect of facing defending champions Real Madrid in the Champions League. The two teams meet in the fourth round of the competition on Tuesday.
In an interview with DAZN, Fonseca emphasized the importance of securing points to improve Milan’s position in the standings. “On Tuesday, we face Real Madrid, but it doesn’t matter if it’s Real Madrid or another team, we need points to improve our position in the standings,” he said.
Fonseca expressed his enthusiasm for the match, stating, “I hope it will be a great night for all of us.” He also downplayed the significance of facing Real Madrid, saying, “I’m always excited for every match and I don’t think facing Real Madrid is more important than the Monza match.”
Milan’s recent form has been promising, with a 1-0 win over Monza in the 11th round of the Italian league. Tijani Rainers scored the only goal of the match, while Rafael Leo made a notable impact off the bench.
Leo, the Dutch midfielder, has been in fine form, scoring in two consecutive matches for the first time since joining Milan. He previously scored twice against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Leo replaced Noah Okafor in the 63rd minute, helping Milan secure a crucial win. The victory lifted Milan to seventh place with 17 points, just 8 points behind Napoli.
In contrast, Monza suffered their second consecutive loss under Alessandro Nesta, dropping to 18th place with 8 points.
