Miley Cyrus is opening up about her experiences after leaving the Disney Channel and the “Hannah Montana” series. In a recent podcast appearance, Cyrus discussed the limitations she faced regarding performing music from the show.
Cyrus revealed that after “Hannah Montana” concluded its 100-episode run in 2011, she was initially barred from singing any of the original songs. The show, which aired on the Disney Channel from 2006 to 2011,featured Cyrus as a regular teen leading a double life as a pop star. Other cast members included Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Billy Ray cyrus, Mitchel Musso and Moises Arias.
“After I left Disney, I wasn’t allowed to perform any of the ‘Hannah Montana’ music,” Cyrus said. She added that performing those songs between her later hits “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” wouldn’t have made sense at the time.”It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn’t allowed to sing them,” she said.
However, the situation has changed. After being named a Disney Legend at D23 2024, Cyrus said she received permission to perform the “Hannah montana” songs in the future. She described this development as “pretty cool.”
Cyrus’s latest project,”Something Beautiful,” is a 55-minute visual album set to premiere in theaters June 12. At the premiere,Cyrus acknowledged the female artists who inspired her, including Tina Turner,Donna summer, and Diana Ross. ”This is my journey but they made it so much easier because they’ve already broken down all the doors for me,” Cyrus said.
