Netflix will no longer move forward with the biographical sports drama Perfect
following the departure of star and producer Millie Bobby Brown. The project, which was intended to chronicle the life and career of Olympic gold medalist Kerri Strug, has been completely scrapped by the streamer.
According to reports from Deadline and Variety, Brown exited the production due to creative differences with producers
. The film was scheduled to begin production in the summer of 2026, but the departure of the lead actress has resulted in the project being cancelled.
The Story of Kerri Strug
The film was based on the memoir Landing on My Feet: A Diary of Dreams
written by Kerri Strug. Strug is a retired gymnast from Tucson, Arizona, who represented the United States at both the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
The narrative of Perfect
was set to focus on Strug’s role as a member of the 1996 USA women’s gymnastics team, famously known as the Magnificent Seven
. The plot would have centered on her triumph against the odds to help the team clinch their first gold medal at the Atlanta games.
A central point of the film would have been the iconic moment when Strug completed her final vault on a badly injured ankle. After landing the vault perfectly, her ankle gave out, necessitating her coach, Bela Karolyi, to carry her off the mat. This image remains one of the most recognized moments in Olympic history.
Production and Creative Transitions
The development of the project saw several shifts in leadership. Originally, the film was slated to be directed by Gia Coppola, with a script written by Ronnie Sandahl. Brown was attached to the project not only as the lead actress but also as a producer through her PMCA Banner.

Other producers involved in the project included Nik Power via Riverstone Pictures, Thomas Benski via Magna Films, as well as Jeremy Baxter, Marisa Clifford, Deepak Nayar, Ronnie Sandahl and Olivia Wilde.
Earlier in 2026, Gia Coppola exited the director’s chair. She was subsequently replaced by Cate Shortland, who was set to lead the production before Brown’s eventual exit and the subsequent cancellation of the film.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Ongoing Netflix Partnership
Despite the cancellation of Perfect
, Brown maintains a significant working relationship with Netflix. The actress recently concluded her tenure on Stranger Things
, which aired its record-breaking series finale in December 2025.
Brown has several other projects currently in development or awaiting release with the streamer, including:
Enola Holmes 3
, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.Just Picture It
, a romantic comedy that Brown has already finished shooting.Nineteen Steps
, a film adaptation of Brown’s debut novel.
