Despite a challenging launch, Build A Rocket Boy is continuing development on its action-adventure game, MindsEye, releasing a substantial update today, . Dubbed “Update 7,” the patch is being described as a “reset for the brand and the title,” aiming to address criticisms and lay the groundwork for future content, including a planned expansion and a multiplayer mode.
MindsEye, set in a near-future America, follows Jacob Diaz, who is equipped with a neural implant called the MindsEye. The game explores themes of AI, corporate espionage, and political corruption, blending high-octane driving with third-person shooter combat. The game is set in Redrock, a fictional desert metropolis.
The initial launch in June 2025 was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews, even prompting Sony to offer refunds. However, Build A Rocket Boy, led by former Rockstar North boss Leslie Benzies, has remained committed to improving the game. Update 7 focuses on refining the core gameplay experience, according to a press release. Specifically, the update aims to improve the flow of the main campaign by clarifying in-game objectives and enhancing AI behavior. PC players will also benefit from improved drone control, and the patch includes numerous bug fixes.
“Update 7 is a big step forward for MindsEye, and our studio,” said Mark Gerhard, CEO & CTO of Build A Rocket Boy. “We’ve listened, we’ve moved quickly, and we’re continuing to refine performance, make continuous improvements, and deliver substantial combat and gameplay enhancements. New content is in development, and we’re committed to steady, meaningful progress. Our core focus remains on delivering the MindsEye experience we always envisioned and the one our players deserve.”
The update also includes a special bonus for owners of the Deluxe Edition: the Silva E-Series, a new street-circuit racetrack located in Redrock. This track features grandstands and NPC spectators, and players can compete for global leaderboard rankings.
Beyond Update 7, Build A Rocket Boy has announced plans for a significant expansion that will add end-game content and enhance world exploration. This expansion will be followed by the introduction of a multiplayer mode, accessible through the game’s Arcadia system. Arcadia currently serves as a hub for additional content, including races, challenges, and special missions.
The development team emphasizes that Update 7 represents a turning point for MindsEye. The patch notes detail improvements to mission guidance, with added blips to help players navigate the campaign more effectively. The studio is actively soliciting feedback from the community and promises to continue delivering improvements.
While the partnership with IO Interactive has reportedly ended, Build A Rocket Boy remains dedicated to realizing its original vision for MindsEye. The studio is focused on delivering “steady, meaningful progress” and creating an experience that meets player expectations. The game features intense combat where players must utilize quick thinking, tactical positioning, and the environment to overcome enemies who coordinate attacks and attempt to overwhelm the player.
The release of Update 7 marks a renewed effort to revitalize MindsEye after a difficult launch. The studio hopes that these improvements, combined with the planned expansion and multiplayer mode, will attract both returning players and newcomers to the game. The game’s narrative centers on artificial intelligence, human greed, and the struggle for control, all set against a backdrop of a world on the brink of collapse.
