Minister Vallejo Stands Firm: No Change in Stance on General Yáñez’s Situation

September 18, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

Minister Camila Vallejo⁢ Reiterates‍ Criteria for‌ Executive Committee Amid ‍General Yáñez’s Situation

Minister Secretary General to the Government, Camila ‌Vallejo,⁢ emphasized that the criteria ‍for the Executive Committee ‌have not‍ changed, and ‌General Ricardo Yáñez must ⁣leave ⁣his post ‍before‍ being formalized on October 1.

Vallejo⁢ made ⁣this⁢ statement after attending‍ the Ecumenical Te Deum in the Cathedral of Santiago, where she addressed‍ the press regarding the ‍matter.

The Government spokesman’s comments⁤ align ‌with‌ those made by Under Secretary of the Interior, ⁢Manuel⁣ Monsalve, who stated that “the Government does not consider it appropriate, under any conditions, in‌ any institution, under any person, that a person who performs important functions in an organization is formalized in performing those functions.”

General⁤ Ricardo Yáñez’s Situation

When asked⁢ about General ⁤Yáñez’s situation, Minister⁣ Vallejo said, “We maintain the same criteria and, ⁤regardless of ⁢the decision of justice, we are‍ concerned and concerned about continuing to support the ‍Carabineros organization, ⁤because our main ally is to guarantee security, which remains,‍ among the priorities, ⁤number ⁢one in our country.”

Vallejo emphasized ⁣that “in the context of⁣ formalization, there is ⁤a criterion. The other discussion,‌ whether hours ‌before, hours after, ‌at the⁣ moment of…, the relevant thing is that the criterion has not been ⁤adjusted, and the Carabineros organization has our‍ full support to continue working against organized crime.”

General Director‌ of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, was ⁣initially set to be formalized on‍ May 7 for⁢ the crime ⁤of inaction under illegal pressure, in the context of the social ⁤cases in 2019. However, the murder of three police officers in Cañete on April 27 ⁤led the Prosecutor’s Office⁤ to request a postponement until October 1.
