Ministry of Education Highlights Empowerment of Gifted Individuals at World Conference
The Ministry of Education, represented by Deputy Secretary General for Education Hassan bin Mohsen Kharmi, participated in the World Conference on Philanthropy and Creativity. The conference is hosted by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, known as “Mawhiba.” This year’s theme is “The creative mind is limitless.”
During the first dialogue session titled “Kindergarten to Grade 12 – Empowerment,” experts discussed ways to enhance education for gifted students and support their creativity. Dr. Kharmi emphasized the ministry’s commitment to investing in talent and creativity. He noted that over 7% of high-performing students excel in national tests, with some education departments achieving even higher percentages.
The National Gifted Identification Program has helped identify over 600,000 students since its launch. Last year alone, 100,000 students registered, showing the ministry’s dedication to addressing challenges in identifying and supporting gifted students. The ministry also provides diverse support for parents and has restructured enrichment programs and national competitions, such as the Robot Olympiad and the Education Night Cup.
Dr. Kharmi pointed out that giftedness spans beyond science and technology to include arts, culture, and sports. Over 400,000 students have entered cultural talent competitions. The ministry collaborates with organizations, including the Ministry of Culture and Sports, to support gifted students in various fields.
In closing, Dr. Kharmi presented the ministry’s vision for developing gifted education in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The ministry aims to establish a system that fosters local and international partnerships across education, arts, culture, and sports. This initiative will prepare a generation capable of contributing to the knowledge economy and competing globally.
The Ministry of Education’s active role in the conference reflects its commitment to building a system for discovering and developing talent, aligning with national goals for a sustainable knowledge economy and creativity in all sectors.
