Federal Agents Shoot and Kill Man in Minneapolis
Federal agents shot and killed a 51-year-old man in Minneapolis on january 24,2026,marking the third such shooting and second fatality in the city this month. Local and state officials are renewing calls for the removal of federal officers from Minnesota.
The shooting occurred around 9:00 AM Central Time outside a doughnut shop south of downtown Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated the agents were conducting a targeted operation against an individual allegedly in the U.S. illegally and wanted for violent assault. According to DHS, the man approached Border Patrol agents with a semiautomatic handgun, resisted attempts to disarm him, and prompted agents to fire in self-defense.
However, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara indicated he lacks details regarding events preceding his officers’ arrival. The victim has been identified as a 51-year-old male and officials believe he is a U.S. citizen with no criminal record and a valid permit to carry a firearm.
Chief O’Hara reported an unlawful gathering of protesters at the scene and urged calm. Dozens of people protested the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, but details of the incident remained unclear at the time of the demonstration.
