Protests are underway in multiple locations across Minneapolis,with a central gathering near the intersection of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue,the site of a fatal shooting on Wednesday. Reports indicate ongoing demonstrations throughout the city.
The protests began following the death of Jaahid Whitaker, 39, who was shot by Minneapolis police officers on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at approximately 11:30 PM. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the shooting, according to the Star Tribune.
