The second round of the ⁤women’s singles at⁢ the Guadalajara Open Akron (Mexico/Guadalajara, hard,⁢ WTA500) took place on the 11th, with world No. 80 Camila Osorio (Colombia) defeating seventh seed Vicente Kudermetova in a thrilling match that lasted over ‍three hours, winning in a full ‍set of 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (2-7), 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The 22-year-old Osorio participated⁢ in the U.S. Open (USA/New York, hard,⁣ Grand Slam) last week but lost in the first round for the second ⁤year in a row.‍ However, she bounced back at the Guadalajara Open in Akron, defeating world No. 101 H. Baptista (USA) in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to advance to⁣ the second round.

In the first set of the second round,‍ both players broke each other twice, forcing the ‍match‍ into a tiebreaker. ‍Osorio led 5-1 and held ‌off a comeback from Kudermetova, taking the second set point to⁢ take the lead.

In the second set, Osorio took a break, just like in the first set, forcing the⁢ match into a tiebreak. She ⁤got a mini-break first but then lost six points in a row, and the match was tied at one set.

In the final set, Osorio’s service games ⁣were unstable, and she lost five straight games from the start, putting her⁣ on the brink of⁤ defeat. However, she ‍fought ‍back from the sixth game and won ⁣seven ‌straight‌ games to win⁣ the match after three hours and 21 minutes.

Osorio⁢ will now face world No. 86 K. ⁣Rakhimova in ⁤the quarterfinals, who‌ advanced after third-seeded Viktor Azarenka withdrew from the second round at 6-2, 3-0.
