First, one of ⁤the patient’s canine teeth was extracted along with the surrounding bone. ⁤This extracted tooth and bone structure was then ⁢carefully prepared by straightening it⁣ and creating a cavity to hold a ⁣plastic cylinder.This modified tooth structure was then implanted under the skin of the patient’s cheek for ⁣several‍ months to encourage tissue growth⁤ around it.This step is crucial for ensuring the body accepts the⁢ structure ⁢and builds a blood ⁢supply.

In June 2025, the prepared‍ tooth structure was surgically placed into the eye socket. Because the tooth and surrounding tissue originated from the patient’s own body, ⁣the risk of rejection was considerably reduced.This autologous approach is a key advantage of the OOKP procedure.

Improving Vision over Time

Instantly following the surgery, the patient, identified as Chapman,⁣ began to perceive movement. His vision steadily improved over the following ‍months. Corrective surgery and ⁤glasses fitting in August 2025 resulted in a visual acuity of 20/30.‍ This‍ means⁢ Chapman can see at 6 meters what⁤ a person with perfect vision can see at 9 meters, a significant‍ betterment in his quality of life.⁤ American Optometric Association explains ⁣visual acuity standards.
