The earthquake caused significant tremors in the city, prompting the government to launch a second-level emergency response.
During the earthquake, a young mother in Liangyuan Town, Feidong County, experienced strong shaking in the basement. She protected her four-month-old baby and evacuated safely to the outdoors, demonstrating the greatness and tenacity of maternal love. Many videos recorded the touching scene of parents escaping barefoot with their children in their arms, regardless of their own safety, at the moment of the earthquake. Students from multiple campuses ran to open spaces to take shelter.
As of September 19, 42 aftershocks have been recorded in the Feidong earthquake, of which 6 exceeded M1.0 and the largest aftershock was M2.5. The area was hit by another 2.6-magnitude earthquake at a similar location and depth. This time, the aftershocks were frequent and widespread. Residents nearby are reminded to take precautions and stay away from tall and dangerous buildings.
