81-Year-Old Woman Randomly Punched in the Face on New York City’s Upper West Side
An 81-year-old woman was suddenly attacked by a man who punched her in the side of the head on Friday while walking her dog on New York City’s Upper West Side, according to reports.
The woman, who wished to be known only as Gloria, reportedly felt “lucky” to survive after being randomly punched and hospitalized. Gloria, who suffered bruises on her face and neck, spoke exclusively with FOX 5’s Duarte Geraldino.
She told the station she didn’t remember much about the incident because she suffered a concussion from the attack. Still, she described the incident as “terrifying.”
In surveillance footage obtained by FOX 5, Gloria is seen walking her dog on the sidewalk near W. 66th Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 7 p.m. when a man dressed in black walks past her and appears to say something to her.
A moment later, a man dressed in black turned around and walked up behind Gloria, punching her in the face.
The network paused the footage to not show the full attack, but reported that Gloria hit her head on the side of the building before losing her balance and falling to the ground.
“I didn’t want to see that tape, and maybe I felt lucky because he might have had a knife,” she told the news station. “My neck was as fat as my face.”
Despite the attack, Gloria told reporters she still takes her dog out for walks. “I’m not going to hide in my apartment,” she said.
The NYPD continues to investigate this incident.
This attack adds to a growing list of violent assaults in the Big Apple.
In March, several young women took to social media to claim they were punched in the face or head by strangers while walking through New York City.
One of the women, TikTok user Olivia Brand, uploaded a video on March 17 after “getting punched by a guy on the sidewalk.”
“He said, ‘I’m sorry!’ and hit me in the head with his fist,” she recalled. “Oh my God! What the hell is going on?”
Several other women have reported similar incidents.
