Fiji Celebrates as Ailava Samuels Crowned Miss Pacific Islands 2026
Ailava Samuels, representing Fiji, has been crowned Miss Pacific Islands 2026 in a celebratory event held in Nadi on Saturday night. The 19-year-old’s victory marks the first time a Fijian contestant has won the regional title in six years.
Samuel bested six other contestants from across the Pacific, securing the crown and the title of Best in Interview. The crowning moment was particularly poignant, as Samuels stepped onto the stage following a period of scrutiny surrounding the original Miss Fiji winner, Dr. Peggy Ravusiro, who was barred from representing the country.
In her acceptance speech, Samuel expressed gratitude to her family and support team, dedicating her win to the entire nation of Fiji. The sash and crown were presented to her by the outgoing titleholder, Litara Ieremia-Allan of Samoa, in front of a packed audience.
This win makes Samuels the fourth Fijian woman to achieve the title, following Anne Dunn’s victory in 2016. The atmosphere in Nadi was described as filled with “cheers, tears, and a sense of relief” as the result was announced.
The pageant also saw success for other Pacific nations. Iampela Popena of Papua New Guinea was awarded first runner-up, along with the titles of Best Traditional Wear and Miss Internet. Iliganoa Feagaimali’i Soti from Samoa secured the second runner-up position. Tonga’s Siosi’ana Patricia Taumoepeau was named third runner-up and also received the Best Sarong and Miss Tourism awards. Petra Mataiti of the Cook Islands took home the fourth runner-up title, along with Best Talent and Miss Photogenic. Kiribati’s Atiterentaai Rinimarawa was recognized as Miss Personality.
The Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2026 drew considerable attention, culminating in a night of celebration and recognition for the diverse cultures and talents of the Pacific region.
